Minister Gajdoš receives Egyptian Ambassador Bassem M. Abdel-Alim Khalil

Today (21 March 2019), Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš received the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Slovakia, His Excellency Mr Bassem Mohamed Abdel-Alim Khalil, at MOD Main Building. They focused on security policy issues and took stock of the bilateral Defence cooperation between the countries, including on supporting the defence industry. On his first visit to the MOD, the Egyptian Ambassador was accompanied by the Defence Attaché of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Slovakia, Col Ahmed Khalil Abdelkader.
At the meeting, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “Creating a space and conditions for forging defence cooperation with the Mediterranean Dialogue countries, and so also with Egypt, provides an opportunity for exchanging experience and expertise and possibilities for joint military education and training.” As he further explained, the Slovak Republic has a lot to offer in this field. “Be that our state-of-the-art CBRN Training Centre in Zemianske Kostoľany, the Lešť Training Centre, or the International Staff Officers Course (ISOC) delivered by the General M. R. Štefánik Armed Forces Academy, so areas of potential cooperation are wide,” he added.
Minister Gajdoš informed Ambassador Khalil about the current modernization programmes in the SVK Armed Forces and the planned defence budget increases up to 2% of GDP on defence by 2022.
