Chief of Defence Daniel Zmeko earns promotion to most senior general rank

During a promotion ceremony at the Presidential Palace today (28 May 2019), Slovak Chief of Defence Lt Gen Daniel Zmeko was promoted to General, the Slovak Armed Forces’ most senior general rank, by President and Commander-in-Chief of the Slovak Armed Forces Andrej Kiska, having acted on the Defence Minister’s recommendations approved by the SVK Government.
Along with the CHOD, among the promotees was Brig Gen Miroslav Lorinc, who rose to the rank of Major General. Finally, two more promotions were announced today, with Col Róbert Kleštinec and Col Peter Babiar being promoted to the most junior general rank of Brigadier General.
In his statement, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “Appointments and promotions of generals reflect the professional qualities and abilities of our service personnel. Let me extend my congratulations to all of those who have been accorded this honour today.”
Speaking on behalf of the promoted generals, Brig Gen Peter Babiar said: “In the organizational structures where we work, there is a strict order of hierarchy. Nevertheless, team work is key to us. Therefore, our appointments and promotions are what we perceive as a recognition of work by all those who have accompanied us over the course of our military careers.”
