Minister Gajdoš hands over new vehicles to elite SOF soldiers

Today (28 May 2019), Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš handed over 18 new Polaris off-road vehicles to SOF soldiers during a handover ceremony at the 5th Special Forces Regiment Žilina. They are specially designed for SOF operations and domestic and international crisis management operations.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “I hope that the new tactical vehicles will serve their purpose, that they will make the job of our elite soldiers from the 5th Special Forces Regiment easier, be that at home or abroad, and that the modern off-roads will be motivational for them to perform even better.” As he explained, the delivery of the vehicles is the result of a G2G sale via the FMS programme. “This is one of the most transparent methods for fielding new equipment to our service personnel,” he emphasised.

During the ceremony, Commander of the 5th Special Forces Regiment Col Miroslav Gardlo thanked for the new vehicles and appreciated this decision of the MOD leaders in favour of the elite 5th Special Forces Regiment, which is, according to his words, one of the most significant investments in the Regiment in its existence. “This investment of the SVK MOD in improving the equipment of our Regiment pushes us further ahead on mobility and operational readiness,” he said.

Under the contract, another nine Can – Am BRP off-road vehicles with trailers for both types of vehicles and spare parts will be supplied. The contractor offers a logistics support package as part of which 20 specialists and instructors will be trained to operate the vehicles.
