Commemorating Tokajík tragedy victims

To mark the 75th anniversary of the Tokajík tragedy wherein the village was burned down and 32 villagers were executed by Nazis for supporting partisans in WW2, an Act of Commemoration was held in Tokajík on Friday 22 November 2019. Representing the Ministry of Defence was State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Defence Marián Saloň.

In his speech, State Secretary Saloň emphasised that it is of great importance to remind those generations who did not live through WW2 of the historical circumstances of the period. “Because we should not think that what we are experiencing in peace now is a matter of course,” he said.

Over 100 villages were burned down in Slovakia in WW2 as the front moved across Slovakia and as a result of Nazi reprisals for acts of resistance by local communities.
