Winners of the MOD Literary Competition receive prizes

Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš and General Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Ján Hoľko gave prizes to the winners of the 15th MOD Literary Competition at MOD Main Building today (10 December 2019). A total of 132 entries by both secondary and tertiary school students were evaluated this year.
Speaking in front of the prize winners, Defence Minister Peter Gajdoš said: “This year’s theme of the MOD Literary Competition was “The Inspirational General Štefánik” and I am very pleased to see that through their works students have presented the views of the “young generation” on one of the most prominent personalities of our history.”
General Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Ján Hoľko said: “The aim of this competition for students is to awaken the young people’s interest in the themes of patriotism, Slovak military history and that of the Armed Forces, because we are convinced that it is important for them to have a good grasp of important milestones of our history.”
In competing in the secondary school category, Rebeka Morvaiová, of the Vavrinec Benedikt Nedožerský Grammar School in Prievidza, placed 1st, followed by Slávka Jalčová, of the Secondary Business School in Michalovce, and Adam Janeka, of the Secondary Vocational School in Pruské.
The Defence Minister also presented prizes to university students. The highest number of votes in an online vote won Mária Kromková first place in the tertiary school category, Lenka Mitanová took 2nd place, and Peter Kromka clinched 3rd place. All of the prize winners are students of Comenius University in Bratislava.
As part of the 1st round, the MOD jury evaluated 132 entries that had met all the competition criteria and selected the 5 best contributions in both categories. As part of the 2nd round between 25 November 2019 and 2 December 2019, the selected entries were made available on the MOD’s facebook for an online vote. A total of 4,050 voters participated in the vote.
