Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď: Support for the SVK defence industry is a strategic interest of the State

The new MOD leadership considers support for the SVK defence industry as a strategic interest of the State. In working towards this, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Marian Majer discussed ways of supporting SVK defence manufacturers directly with representatives of the SVK Security and Defence Industry Association at the Ministry of Defence on Friday (17 April 2020).

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "The ability to manufacture defence assets in our home territory may be crucial in the eventuality of a security crisis. Therefore, everything we can manufacture for the SVK Armed Forces in Slovakia we will manufacture at home. Of course, in no way do we seek to sideline exports, but we want to promote our manufacturing domestically, with the aim of supporting SVK economy and giving jobs to our citizens."

In that respect, he expressed his conviction that if the conditions are set favourably and fairly, the SVK defence industry has something to offer, even in the field of research and development. "I believe and I will do everything I can to make sure that, unlike in the past, the domestic defence industry finally gets enough space and backing from the government."

Currently, the SVK Security and Defence Industry Association has a member community of 48 companies with approx. 10,000 employees.
