SVK service personnel's continued efforts for the benefit of domestic crisis management in the fight to contain the spread of COVID-19 are an exemplary example of the SVK Armed Forces' capabilities and professionalism. This was confirmed today by Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď following his visit to the village of Bystrany, where the first of the sealed-off Roma settlements was re-opened 16 days on since its closure. Prime Minister Igor Matovič, State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Marian Majer, and Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko, too, came to inspect the success of the measures in place.
Speaking in Bystrany, Prime Minister Igor Matovič said: "Just as an ordinary Roma settlement in Bystrany is becoming a model for the whole of Slovakia today, it is also recognition of some very exemplary work the SVK Armed Forces have put in here." He continued: "Apart from the SVK Armed Forces' logistical mission, let me specifically highlight their extraordinary human approach of which I've learned also from what local residents of this particular settlement posted on social media networks."
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: "I'd very much like to thank the Chief of Defence as well as all men and women of the Armed Forces for the excellent work they have done also here in the village of Bystrany. Indeed, it has been part of the efforts by the well-functioning domestic crisis management team, which, maybe after the first few days getting used to a lot of things and looking for a way ahead, finally managed to operate very well and to very high quality standards." Head of the MOD also confirmed that service members will continue to carry out duties where necessary. "I'm proud of our servicemen and women because they have put in a tremendous amount of work, especially at this difficult time," he added.
Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko said: "We have been continually performing tasks for the benefit of the quarantined settlements, the town of Krompachy and its urban areas. There, our soldiers have been fully engaged not only with local government officials, but also with the Police Corps and other authorities and non-governmental organisations." Chief of Defence Gen Zmeko thanked all service members for holding themselves to high standards of responsibility.
