Trenčín - Kubrá Munitions Depot is not a matter of political points but a matter of State defence

The Trenčín - Kubrá Munitions Depot forms part of the SVK Armed Forces' strategic infrastructure for delivering State defence. Therefore, the SVK MOD distances itself from those seeking to win political popularity and points by proposing to relocate or close the munitions site.

“This is not about defence infrastructure that could be rearranged according to the ideas of political entities, this is a matter of State defence. Therefore, relocating or closing the site cannot be taken into consideration. This is utopia and populism, and in case somebody seizes the opportunity to manipulate the issue, this is clearly misleading,” said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď, responding to today's press release by a Member of Parliament from the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, noting that the Ministry of Defence will not participate in his political campaign.

On the transportation issue in Trenčín, the MOD leaders have been in close and active contact with officials of the Trenčín City, the Trenčín Self-Governing Region, and the Ministry of Transport and Construction. “Our common goal is to find a suitable, compromise solution and we are working intensely towards that end,” emphasised the Minister. At the same time, he assured the residents of Trenčín and those of the surrounding villages that their safety comes first.

The Trenčín - Kubrá Munitions Depot is a storage site for small arms, artillery and combat engineer munitions. Their storage in munitions bunkers and warehouses meets the set conditions according to the internal guidelines and the conditions set by law. The construction arrangements of the munitions depot, the organisational and technical measures and safety zones in place minimise the risk of undesirable effects on the surrounding environment.
