MOD seeks effective ways of modernising its fleet of subsonic aircraft

The Ministry of Defence is currently identifying ways of modernising its fleet of subsonic aircraft in a cost-effective and transparent manner. Director General of the MOD's Modernisation Department/National Armaments Director Jozef Zekucia and Italian Defence Attaché Brig Gen Giuseppe Gimondo met to discuss cooperation in this area on Friday 10 July 2020.

Speaking after the meeting, Director of the MOD's Modernisation Department/National Armaments Director Jozef Zekucia said: “High quality personnel requires high quality aircraft as well as adequate training conditions. This is twice true of the Armed Forces. Therefore, we are naturally interested in different options for modernising the assets of the Slovak Air Force, including trainer aircraft.”

During the meeting, National Armaments Director Jozef Zekucia expressed his appreciation for the offer of Italian Defence Attaché Brig Gen Giuseppe Gimondo to present the projects of Italian defence manufacturers. In addressing the Slovak Air Force's trainer aircraft programme in line with its long-term intent, the MOD will request the Italian partner for more information on this subject, he added.
