Director of Central Military Hospital Ružomberok is sacked from his post due to fundamental managerial failures and misconduct in public procurement

Director of the SNP Central Military Hospital Ružomberok Peter Vaněk MD was today sacked from his post by Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď for fundamental managerial failures and misconduct in public procurement associated with a series of infringements of legislation and extensive financial implications, the head of the MOD announced today during a press conference, acknowledging that a criminal complaint has been filed in this case.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “An internal audit has established that the military hospital leadership has gravely erred in its duties in numerous cases. Thanks to the audit conducted by the Inspectorate of the Minister of Defence, a total of 58 irregularities have been identified. For this reason, we have filed a criminal complaint, which is now being investigated by the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) and which is gradually being supplemented by further findings. Therefore, it is understandable that the inevitable change of leadership at [MOD-owned] Horezza joint stock company is now followed by one at the Central Military Hospital.” The Minister added that he came to office with the principles of transparency and efficiency to be enforced in managing State estate and it is with this issue that he has gradually confronted the entirety of Defence. “This is about complex work that requires some time to complete, yet the results are definitely worth it,” he concluded.

Brig Gen Vladimír Lengvarský MD MPH, Surgeon General of the Slovak Armed Forces, has been appointed the new Director of the SNP Central Military Hospital Ružomberok. Appreciating his qualities as a soldier, a manager and a doctor, Minister Naď emphasised: “He is an experienced subject matter expert who has served in the Slovak Armed Forces for long years and he has demonstrated his managerial skills as Surgeon General of the Slovak Armed Forces, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe the hospital will be in good hands. I fully trust him and look forward to working with him. From 1 September 2020 onwards, the Central Military Hospital will, once again, be run by a soldier.”

The SNP Central Military Hospital Ružomberok is a military medical facility, with the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic as its founder.
