St Michael’s Hospital strengthens its COVID-19 testing capacity for self-payers, finger-prick test yields results from single blood drop in 15 minutes

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the University Hospital - St Michael’s Hospital, a joint stock company owned 100% by the State and run by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Interior, has strengthened its COVID-19 testing capacity. The new method of testing is the finger-prick anti-body test which yields results in 15 minutes. The test can be taken from 10.00am to 12.00am from Mon to Fri at the isolation ward on the hospital’s ground floor after prior phone arrangement. The test costs €35 for self-payers.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Ever since the outbreak of the first wave of coronavirus, we have done our utmost in the fight against the pandemic not only through the Slovak Armed Forces, but also with the help of our Defence establishments. This new opportunity to test the public at St Michael’s Hospital will ensure greater public availability of testing for coronavirus.”
Interior Minister Roman Mikulec said: “I am very pleased that we have launched this service at St Michael’s Hospital and I appreciate that we have responded flexibly to all innovative diagnostic procedures. All those who are interested can find out about the state of their coronavirus anti-bodies in a rapid and truly painless manner. I am convinced that thanks to this we can contribute to improving the epidemiological situation in our country. This is one of the many innovative measures of the hospital’s new management led by the new director general.”
The Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology Section, University Hospital - St Michael’s Hospital, JSC, conducts rapid diagnostic testing for IgM/IgG antibodies in human finger-prick blood samples for self-payers at the isolation ward on the hospital’s ground floor after prior phone arrangement (0915 732 570), starting from 9 September 2020. Those interested must fill out the “Request - Consent” form and make a payment of €35 at the hospital’s reception.
