Ministry of Defence buys clothing items for service members worth over €17 million

The Ministry of Defence has already contracted €12m worth of clothing items for members of the SVK Armed Forces, whereas it plans to make clothing contracts for over another €5m worth of military clothes by the end of this year. By doing this, the MOD leaders are responding to the urgent need to ensure adequate Service conditions for military personnel, even in the field of military clothing. All in all, soldiers can rest assured that additional standard military issue clothes will be delivered still this year.

On clothing issuance, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “I could not reconcile myself to the state of affairs as they existed before I took office. As an opposition politician, I received a lot of complaints directly from service personnel. I heard they were wearing old torn uniforms and worn-out footwear. Admittedly, essential clothing items such as vests, T-shirts and socks were missing as well. Put simply, such conditions were unacceptable for me. Today, I am very pleased that things have moved forward, and, unlike the previous MOD leaderships, we can really help soldiers and provide them with adequate clothing to perform their duties.”

The head of the MOD pointed out that the contracts awarded so far feature different items of military uniforms, including T-shirts, shirts, socks, trousers, jackets, hats, berets, gloves, low shoes and shoes. “These are the items that servicemen and women use every day and they cannot do without them. Therefore, it is important that whenever they need new clothing they must know they will get it,” said Minister Naď.

The purchased standard military issue clothes will be made available to service members at the Central Issue Facilities and will be distributed across military units on the basis of requests from members of the SVK Armed Forces.
