Slovakia expresses its condolences, solidarity and support in relation to Ukrainian AN-26 aircraft crash

On behalf of the SVK Government, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok have sent a letter of condolence to their Ukrainian counterparts. In the letter, they expressed their sincere condolences, solidarity and support in relation to the crash of the Ukrainian Air Force AN-26 aircraft, which took place in eastern Ukraine on Friday evening and in which dozens died. 

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď stated: “I would like to express my most sincere condolences to all who have been affected by the tragedy and have lost their loved ones. According to the available information, besides the crew, there were also cadets of the Kharkiv National Air Force University on board. It is a terrible tragedy for the families, friends and the whole of Ukraine. We are with them in our thoughts and we are ready to offer them every help and support in this difficult situation. Ukraine, we pray for you.”

Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok added: “The news about the tragedy has caused deep grief for the whole of Ukraine, which is honouring the victims of the tragedy by observing a day of national mourning. Even though it is difficult to find the right words for such a painful wound, we would like to express our sympathy. We honour the memory of the deceased.” 

The Ukrainian military AN-26 aircraft crashed on Friday at 7:50hrs on approaching the runway near the town of Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region in eastern Ukraine and it started to burn immediately after the crash. 26 out of 27 people on board lost their lives.
