Defence Minister J. Naď meets Slovenian Ambassador G. Kozovinc for talks on current politico-military issues

Topics of discussion for the first official meeting between Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Slovakia, HE Mr Gregor Kozovinc, mainly included current security and defence issues. Ambassador Kozovinc was keen to find out more about the experience Slovakia and its Armed Forces have gained from planning, preparing and conducting the largest civil-military operation – Op Shared Responsibility.

Speaking at the meeting, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Today, nearly all countries focus their actions on one of the most important goals – the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The success of this common fight depends on the cooperation, solidarity and support of partners. It is particularly Slovakia’s and Slovenia’s EU and NATO membership that creates a space for strengthening the cooperation and exchange of much-needed experience.”

The Republic of Slovenia is currently holding the CEDC Presidency. Towards this end, a working group has been set up to process the experience of the CEDC countries in the fight against COVID-19, with a focus on strategic communications. “We will be pleased to share the experience the Slovak Republic has gained during the largest civil-military operation under the remit of the Slovak Armed Forces. At the same time, we appreciate the opportunity to speak with our partners on different solutions [to the pandemic],” said Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď. He expressed his conviction that mass population testing is an effective and viable alternative to a country’s several-week-long lockdown.

The head of the MOD updated Ambassador Kozovinc on the SVK Government’s priorities in the field of defence and security and work underway on the new strategic documents. Also discussed were the opportunities for further development of cooperation and the deployment of both armed forces on international crisis management missions and operations. The Defence Minister also provided an update on the Slovak contribution to Op EUNAVFOR MED IRINI, where members of the Slovenian Armed Forces have been posted to the Operational Headquarters (OHQ) in Rome.
