Defence Minister J. Naď and Czech Ambassador T. Tuhý reaffirm SVK-CZE special relationship during today’s talks

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď received the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Slovakia, His Excellency Mr Tomáš Tuhý who was accompanied by Czech Defence Attaché Maj Gen Ján Gurník on his visit to the SVK Ministry of Defence today.

On the central theme of the talks – the SVK-CZE bilateral engagement in the field of defence and security, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “We have a truly special relationship with the Czech Republic and our mutual cooperation is excellent. Yet, we can always take it forward, which is why I spoke with Ambassador Tuhý and we looked at ways to step up our cooperation in building the capabilities of our armed forces or supporting our defence industry, for example.”

At the meeting, Minister Naď provided an updated to Ambassador Tuhý on the modernisation programmes of the SVK Armed Forces. Mr Naď presented how the MOD was managing the procurement of radar systems for the SVK Air Force and other modernisation programmes. He also addressed the planned investments in military infrastructure, in particular the upgrade of air bases, headquarters and buildings, which remain in a poor or critical state of repair.
 
The final portion of the discussion revolved around developments regarding the pandemic in both countries. Ambassador Tuhý acknowledged the work the Slovak Armed Forces have been doing as part of Op Shared Responsibility with the rollout of population-wide mass testing for the presence of coronavirus in Slovakia. “The role of the Armed Forces has been irreplaceable and successful,” said the Czech Ambassador.
