Support for SVK defence industry is key area of interest for MOD leaders, new agreement on continuity of cooperation is to contribute to this end

The Ministry of Defence has concluded a new Cooperation Agreement with the SVK Security and Defence Industry Association (ZBOP). Unlike the previous one, the new Agreement, signed today by Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and President of the SVK Security and Defence Industry Association Tibor Straka, has been concluded for an indefinite period, creating a pre-requisite for long-time cooperation.

Both parties to the Agreement reaffirmed their interest in working together to ensure real support to the SVK defence industry and to deliver more effective communications between the MOD and the Association members, including facilitating the exchange of information on manufacturing, purchases and sales of SVK defence products.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “By signing the Agreement, we have opened up a new chapter of cooperation between the Ministry of Defence and the SVK defence manufacturers. As the Minister of Defence, I want to confirm I will do the maximum I can to support the Slovak defence industry and our doors in the ministry are always open to its representatives. I want the SVK defence industry to continue its revitalization and progress.”

President of the SVK Security and Defence Industry Association Tibor Straka appreciated the approach taken by the MOD leadership. He reminded that this year the Association marks the 20th anniversary of its establishment. ZBOP has 51 members and employs about 10,000 people.

The Cooperation Agreement is set to enable the ZBOP members to participate in research and development (R&D) and armaments programmes, projects and activities geared towards delivering State defence, as consistent with the legally binding documents of the Slovak Republic, the European Union and NATO. Under the Agreement, the Association members will provide the MOD with information on their capacity to conduct R&D and to manufacture products in order to meet the MOD's needs.
