Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď handed over prizes to the winners of the 16th MOD Literary Competition in a ceremony at the Ministry of Defence today. A total of 299 competitive entries, of which 244 were from secondary students and 55 from college students, entered the creative writing competition, with this year’s theme “What is the price of peace?”
Speaking at the ceremony, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “The literary competition has again shown us that the themes associated with the Ministry of Defence and security are not foreign to students. On the contrary, they take active interest in them and have a lot to say about them. This is evidenced by the number of competitive entries we received this year.”
In the Secondary Schools category, Lenka Kolcunová, of Stará Ľubovňa-based Terézia Vansová Grammar School, scooped 1st place, Sandra Grimeková, of Trnava-based Ján Hollý Grammar School, placed 2nd, and Gabriela Spišáková, of Michalovce-based Grammar School, claimed 3rd place.
In the College category, the highest number of votes in an online vote won Simona Jurková, of the Police Corps Academy in Bratislava, first place. Jana Biganičová, of the University of Prešov, clinched 2nd place, and Beáta Cséfalvayová, of Comenius University in Bratislava, took 3rd place.
