Defence motor pool extended by another 271 new vehicles to replace vehicles at end of their service life

During a handover ceremony in front of the MOD Main Building today, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď handed over keys to military policemen and other personnel of the Ministry of Defence to mark a symbolic handover of 271 new vehicles replacing the vehicles that have reached the end of their service life. The vehicles, which are meant to serve the needs of the Slovak Armed Forces and Military Police, were officially taken over by Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko and Director of Military Police Col Valentín Cebo.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “That military and civilian personnel perform to the highest standards goes hand in hand, among others, with reliable equipment. That’s why I’m immensely pleased that from today onwards they have new vehicles at their disposal as part of the “generational replacement” of vehicles operated by the SVK Armed Forces. In this way, I believe we can contribute not only to better performance of their service duties, but above all else to enhanced safety of our soldiers as their end users.”

A total of 242 vehicles have been purchased under a contract worth €3,695,600, VAT included, by the SVK Ministry of Defence. (Of them, 147 are Hyundai i30 Hatchback and 95 are Hyundai i30 Estate). The new vehicles are intended to enter service with all military units and facilities of the SVK Armed Forces and are to replace the vehicles that have reached the end of their service life (due to the number of kilometres or years of service or a combination of both).

Additionally, SVK Military Police has taken over 29 new vehicles under a contract worth €822,590, VAT included. (Of them, 19 are KIA SPORTAGE SUVs and 10 are Hyundai Tucson SUVs). The vehicles will be used by military policemen for traffic control, riot and escorting operations, detecting and documenting crimes, and training MP personnel. The vehicles will be distributed to individual MP Operations Sections and the Crisis Management, Training and K9 MP Department Vlkanová-Hronsek.

The vehicles have been purchased in line with the Public Procurement Act on the basis of purchase contracts under the framework contracts which were put out to competition via electronic auctions. The concluded contracts are available to the public and can be found in the Central Contracts Register.
