On completion of reconstruction works, the Military Working Dog (MWD) Training Unit, Military Police Department Vlkanová – Hronsek, has 70 new dog runs for military working dogs. The original ones were in a state of poor repair for some time and failed to meet the dog housing standards. In the refurbished grounds, the Crisis Management, Training and Canine Branch can now reopen MWD training courses in the days to come.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Thanks to their unique capabilities, members of the Military Police, including MWD handlers, do a great job at home and abroad. When making investments in Defence infrastructure, we, therefore, remember their working premises and the premises for their four-legged colleagues. They are an important element of MP capabilities and our mission is to reward them with excellent care and high quality conditions.” Minister Naď came to see for himself the refurbished MWD facility at the MP Dept Vlkanová – Hronsek.
Appreciating the outcome of the reconstruction, Director of the SVK Military Police Col Valentín Cebo said: “As part of the Crisis Management, Training and Canine Branch, we deliver theoretical and practical training for MWD handlers and MWDs in order to carry out Service tasks within the remit of the Ministry of Defence. One of the conditions for performance of such tasks by this MP component is, of course, that MWDs must be in good health condition. This is something on which we place a heavy emphasis and to which the new dog runs contribute.”
Reconstruction works in the grounds of the Crisis Management, Training and Canine Branch Vlkanová – Hronsek began by demolishing old kennel walls and removing waste in June 2020. This was followed by the construction of new, resistant and comfortable dog runs, made of proven, modern and highly resistant materials, which have low maintenance demands and enough space for dog kennels and feed.
The newly-built runs have an extended life span, offer easy maintenance of floors, and are of a high utility value. The reconstruction works took place in all weather conditions and were successfully completed in March 2021. A total of 8 rows of dog runs were built, which accounts for 70 new dog runs.
