Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer opens exhibition by disabled artists and gives his patronage to it

The first permanent arts gallery to promote art works by disabled artists from Slovakia has opened at the County Office's Clients Centre in Bratislava's Tomášikova Street. Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer has given his patronage to this year's initial exhibition, staged by the Slovak Agency for Support of Disabled Citizens, which is due to run until 30 June 2021.

Mr Majer said: “Tenacity and combativeness. These are the words to describe the qualities that bring together our service personnel and disadvantaged artists who, despite their disability, do not give up and prove just the opposite with their attitude.” He thanked the artists for their positive feedback to his patronage of this project and appreciated the media interest and support to this cause.

The exhibition, staged as part of the “National Presentation of Arts by Slovak Disabled Artists 2021”, will enable visitors to familiarise themselves with works of art by disadvantaged artists, including with their paintings, wood carvings, photo portraits, ceramics designed and painted in the folklore style of the Modra region, wirecraft, carvings, and embroidered folklore costumes. Also on display will be royal jewels patinated by 23K gold.

Currently, art works by disadvantaged artists are also on display at the MOD-owned, HOREZZA-run Granite Hotel Piešťany – F. E. Scherer Spa Institute. More exhibitions are expected to emerge and be staged in selected cities across Slovakia.
