Institute of Military History is active in online space, it launches interactive map with locations of museum objects

The Institute of Military History (VHÚ) has launched a new interactive map which shows the locations of the museum objects from the collections of both VHÚ-run Military History Museums (MHMs) which, based on a loan request, are on loan to other museums, regional and local authorities, NGOs, and M. R. Štefánik Airport Bratislava.

Director of the Institute of Military History Col Miloslav Čaplovič said: “Even in this way, we try to bring our military history closer to people. Thanks to the interactive map, enthusiasts of military history can explore it or visit the places where the museum objects are installed in different parts of Slovakia.” He added that the objects can be searched according to the name, category and owner and are displayed on the interactive map available on the VHÚ website.

The interactive map gives details on 86 exhibits – 50 items from MHM Piešťany and 36 items from MHM Svidník. The objects are divided into four categories: aircraft, tanks and armoured vehicles, artillery systems, and vehicles.

The museum objects presented on the interactive map are on loan or leased from the Institute of Military History to entities based on a loan agreement or an artwork lease agreement. In most cases, these are replicas of the museum objects. They are maintained, repaired and restored by the borrowers in close coordination with specialists from the Military History Museums (MHM).
