President and Commander-in-Chief of SVK Armed Forces shows her support for service personnel on Ex Slovak Shield 2021

Today (18 June 2021), President and Commander-in-Chief of the SVK Armed Forces Zuzana Čaputová paid a visit to the Training Centre (TC) Lešť to give her support to service personnel on Ex Slovak Shield 2021, Slovakia's biggest military exercise testing all types of our Armed Forces capabilities. Also in attendance were Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko.
In her remarks, President and Commander-in-Chief of the SVK Armed Forces Zuzana Čaputová said: “This is a very useful exercise and experience how to build our collective defence, as NATO Allies participate in this exercise.” She expressed her appreciation to all SVK Armed Forces personnel for doing a great job.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “As part of the series of exercises and checks, soldiers will get to test almost all the capabilities our Armed Forces have. This is a truly unique opportunity to show how well they are prepared for their tasks, ranging from putting forces at higher states of readiness to the conduct of operations in defence of Slovakia by a multinational task force.”
The Training Centre Lešť is hosting over 1,700 troops. Overall, over 8,000 servicemen and women are taking part in Ex Slovak Shield 2021. The training audience at TC Lešť involves military units from Czechia, Hungary, Poland and the United States of America with 650 pieces of vehicles and equipment.
The end of the entire exercise will be dedicated to checks on mechanised battalion-level live firing with the participation of international partners, and the results of the exercising troops will be announced in the presence of senior military leaders and government officials.
Ex Slovak Shield 2021, running from 1 June to 24 June 2021, is taking place simultaneously at different locations across Slovakia, including at TC Lešť, garrison bases, garrison training grounds and smaller training areas where troops are operating under near real conditions as they prepare for and deliver the defence of the Slovak Republic.
