A meeting of deputy ministers and heads of security agencies and constitutional bodies representing 16 institutions took place at the Ministry of Defence today. The proposed Action Plan for Coordination of the Fight Against Hybrid Threats, drafted on the basis of the SVK Government Manifesto 2021-2024 and under the aegis of the SVK MOD, topped the agenda.
The meeting was initiated by Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer with a view to fine-tuning the contours of the document's content and agreeing the next steps ahead in delivering the ambitions spelled out in the document. The key points of the Action Plan include investing in human resources and software instruments for the fight against disinformation, conducting an audit to identify the resilience of the State against hybrid threats, strengthening the State's strategic communications, building population resilience, protecting electoral processes, and addressing foreign power influence in Slovakia.
Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer said: “Over a year ago we launched the process of drafting this document, and today we can see that the need for its pursuance and fulfilment is fully evident. The change of the security environment is a permanent challenge and requires highly intense interdepartmental collaboration with a marked involvement of the non-governmental, private and academic sectors – this means applying a whole-of-society approach. I firmly believe that today's meeting represents another positive milestone in building the readiness of the State to react to a wide range of hybrid threats. These coming weeks are likely to see a marked progress in pursuing our common goals in this area.”
Still today, deputy defence ministers agreed on further steps in finalising the text of the Action Plan and outlined a “roadmap” for the document's approval by the Security Council and the Cabinet after interdepartmental consultations.
