Minister J. Naď speaks about his year in defence politics at conference in Beladice

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď attended the 6th “Together on Security and Defence” Conference in Beladice, organised by the Slovak Security Policy Institute. Appearing separately and on a panel discussion, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď spoke about his year in defence politics.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “The past year has brought a big challenge in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic not just for security and defence, but also for the functioning of the State in all respects. As well as delivering the defence and security of the Slovak Republic, the MOD has also been engaged in protecting the health and lives of SVK citizens to a maximum extent possible. Our soldiers have performed these tasks with utmost commitment and dedication to the cause, for which I am immensely proud of them.”

Alongside COVID-19 operations, he pointed out that special attention must be paid to the needs of the Armed Forces, especially to manning, long-neglected infrastructure, and modernisation in line with the requirements of the SVK military and Slovakia's commitments vis-à-vis the Allies. “Immediately after an improvement in the situation, we are refocusing on the manning levels, suitable Service conditions and equipment required, because without them we cannot expect the tasks to be performed properly, just as doctors cannot treat patients without medicine,” he explained.

The conference was also attended by Prime Minister Eduard Heger, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Ivan Korčok, Health Minister Vladimír Lengvarský, Transport and Construction Minister Andrej Doležal, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Security Juraj Krúpa, and Members of Parliament.
