Armed Forces are coming to Liptovský Mikuláš with Military Summer Festival

The travelling Military Summer Festival with an exciting programme of music is taking place in Liptovský Mikuláš this weekend. The public will be able to learn more about the work and equipment of the Slovak Armed Forces in Námestie osloboditeľov (Liberators) Square, starting from 13:00 on Sunday 8 August 2021. Admission is free.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “The SVK military is well established in Liptovský Mikuláš thanks to the General Milan Rastislav Štefánik Armed Forces Academy, which delivers education and training for our professionals. And that's how local residents look at the armed forces there. Yet, thanks to the Military Summer Festival, they will be able to meet and talk to soldiers in person. I would like to warmly invite all of you to the festival.”

As well as hosting discussions with soldiers, this pubic event will feature a display of combat systems and equipment in use today by the Slovak Armed Forces, a show by the Presidential Guard of Honour, and a flypast from SVK Air Force MiG-29 and L-39 Albatros aircraft. There will also be stands from the Ministry of Defence, the Army Recruitment Team, and the Institute of Military History at the festival. The musical programme will be opened by the Armed Forces Band, followed by music bands such as Heľenine oči (Helen's Eyes), Bijouterrier (Bijou Terrier), Zoči voči (Face to Face), Zverina (Wild Animals) and Mince vo fontáne (Coins in the Fountain).

Visitors can also look forward to meeting members of the DUKLA Military Sports Centre Banská Bystrica, including skier Petra Vlhová, World Fitness Champion Michal Barbier, and other DUKLA sportsmen and women. There will also be a charitable auction of sports equipment donated by Petra Vlhová. Donations and money raised from the sports equipment and military themed T-shirts and will go towards the Sky Blue Butterfly Charity for people with neuromuscular dystrophy.
