Visitors to Military Summer Festival in Banská Štiavnica can look forward to meeting with Slovak athletics star Matej Tóth

The next Military Summer Festival will star 4-time Olympian race walker Matej Tóth, one of the most successful athletes in the history of Slovakia, at the Open Air Theatre in Banská Štiavnica on 15 August in 2021, starting from 14:00. At the festival, Matej Tóth will be joined by alpine skiers Adam and Andreas Žampa, all of them being members of the DUKLA Military Sports Centre Banská Bystrica.

Speaking in appreciation of Matej Tóth's achievements, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Throughout his entire active career, Matej has fought for every single success as a true warrior – with maximum commitment and determination. Not only me, but also the whole of Slovakia is rightly proud of him. I am very delighted I will be able to thank him in person for representing Slovakia so well in the cosy atmosphere of the military festival, and I am sure his fans will turn up to do the same thing.”

In Banská Štiavnica, the Military Summer Festival will be a showcase of all military services and will feature an exciting programme of military music, a display of combat systems and equipment including flypasts, a performance by the SVK Armed Forces Guard of Honour, and discussions with military personnel about their work and about what's happening as business as usual in the Armed Forces. Popular bands like Heľenine oči (Helen's Eyes), Bijouterrier (Bijou Terrier), Zoči voči (Face to Face), Zverina (Wild Animals) and Mince vo fontáne (Coins in the Fountain), playing a wide range of musical styles, will put on a real show.

Traditionally, the Military Summer Festival is a fundraiser for good causes. Visitors to the festival are encouraged to take part in an auction of sports gear gifted by brothers Žampa of the DUKLA Military Sports Centre and to buy military themed T-shirts. Money raised from the event in Banská Bystrica will go towards the Medically and Physically Disabled People and Their Families Civic Association, also known as “Daisy.”
