SVK Air Force demonstrates its capabilities at Slovak International Air Fest SIAF 2021 after two-year pause

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď has opened the 10th Slovak International Air Fest SIAF 2021, with the SVK MOD as the main event partner. Over the next two days, SVK Air Force pilots will take to the skies to show off their capabilities and wow the audience with a first-class feast of flying entertainment.

Appreciating the opportunity to present the Slovak Armed Forces at this pubic event with focus on the readiness and professionalism of the Services, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “As well as recognising our pilots for their art of flying at the edge, we also acknowledge the importance of our ground and support personnel. I am pleased that members of the public can see for themselves that the defence of the Slovak Republic is safe in the hands of our Armed Forces.”

Chief of Defence Gen Daniel Zmeko said: “For us, events such as SIAF are a welcome opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities to the public in a different light other than the extended deployment of our armed forces in support of our citizens.” He added that up to 500 military personnel have been involved in the airshow.

At SIAF 2021, the Ministry of Defence is showcasing the fleets of aircraft operated by the SVK Air Force. Apart from UH-60M Black Hawk and Mi-17 helicopters, the public is being treated to a static display and flying demonstrations of C-27J Spartan transport aircraft, Aero L-39 Albatross jets, Let L-410 Turbolet high-wing turboprop aircraft and MiG-29 fighter jets. Army vehicles and weaponry are also on display for a close-up look.

The official programme has opened with a flypast from SVK Air Force and Interior Ministry aircraft. The programme features live action demonstrations by the SVK Armed Forces, including by members of the Special Operations Forces and paratroopers.

The 10th Slovak International Air Fest SIAF 2021 is taking place at Malacky – Kuchyňa Air Base, as refurbishment works to Sliač Air Base have been underway to prepare the station for the arrival of F-16 fighter jets. This year 13 countries are represented at SIAF with over 30 flying displays and 40 aircraft on the static park.
