Thanks to funding from the Pontis Foundation's Mobis Fund, the Ministry of Defence Aeromedical Centre and Outpatient Clinic Sliač has received a CA-800 corneal topographer to facilitate a complete examination of the anterior corneal surface by ophthalmologists. The new corneal analyser will speed up the complex clinical diagnostics of vision and vision disorders without the need to refer clients for specialist examination to other healthcare facilities.
Capable of generating a detailed map of the corneal curvature, the CA-800 measures over 6,000 points, offering an accuracy of within 1/100 of dioptre. Alongside evaluating the cornea, the topographer delivers dry eye and tear film analysis, as well producing a map of tear film breakdown. It is also equipped with an infrared camera for mapping out the glands located in the upper and lower eyelids (Meibomian glands).
The device features special contact lens fitting software and a database with several thousand types of lenses. It makes work easier for doctors in choosing and applying the right rigid gas permeable (RGP), scleral and hybrid contact lenses.
Equally important, it is crucial in detecting early signs of eye disorders such as Keratoconus (KC), an abnormal curve of the cornea, and Pellucid Marginal Corneal Degeneration (PMCD), a rare progressive peripheral corneal thinning disorder.
