Ministry of Defence invites creative writing entries on Oath of Allegiance for this year's 17th MOD Literary Competition

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and the Defence Magazine editorial staff have launched the 17th MOD Literary Competition open to secondary school, college and university students, with this year’s theme: “OATH OF ALLEGIANCE”. The deadline for sending their short stories and essays in the Slovak language is 21 November 2021.

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “We at the Ministry of Defence are very much interested in the views of the young generation on the pledge to uphold the SVK military's highest moral standards and values – the Oath of Allegiance. Only military professionals swear that they will commit all their strengths, abilities and lives to service. So, it is a very serious pledge to our citizens and country.”

The submissions must be in between 1,000 to 5,000 letters in length (including spaces), the texts must be typed and submitted as DOC, DOCX, ODT or PDF documents. Entries should be forwarded to sutaz@mil.sk.

All details and instructions on the submission of entries and the competition are available on the MOD's website at www.mosr.sk/sutaz-2021.

The competition will culminate in a finale with the best competitive entries published on the MOD’s Facebook for an online vote (www.facebook.com/mosr.sk), to be held on 1-6 December 2021. The public will decide the winning entries through Facebook “likes”.

The first three winners of each category will receive, among others, cash prizes. First prize wins €500, second prize €400, and third prize €300. The winning entries will be published in the MOD’s Defence Magazine. The organizers will officially announce the results of the 17th MOD Literary Competition on 8 December 2021.
