The Ministry of Defence has succeeded in getting EU funding for five projects to refurbish and upgrade the General Milan Rastislav Štefánik Armed Forces Academy (AOS) Liptovský Mikuláš. For this purpose, the MOD has secured €6.38m in non-returnable financial support from the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF).
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer visited the Armed Forces Academy in person today. Speaking of the refurbishment and upgrade projects, Mr Naď said: “We, at the Ministry of Defence, have gradually adopted a series of measures geared towards restoring infrastructure and environmental protection. Therefore, I am particularly pleased with the success of our projects to bring down the energy consumption of the AOS buildings.”
Mr Naď went on to thank the project teams tasked with preparing the applications, saying: “Thanks to the well-prepared projects, we will help the Academy, the people who work and study there, the environment, and last but not least, the budget. Indeed, it made sense to strengthen the MOD team in the field of EU funds planning and management. These are the actual results of a job well done.”
ESIF-funded refurbishment and upgrade works will be required to HQ Bld, Sports Hall Bld, Cultural Centre Bld, PT and Sports Department Bld, and AOS classrooms.
The projects' scope includes fitting external thermal insulation to the buildings and roofs, replacing heating and lighting systems and windows, building a new boiler room, as well as installing solar panels as a novelty.
The contract worth €6,387,766.68 in non-returnable funds is expected to be signed in the days to come.
