The Ministry of Defence has significantly ramped up its investment in the stocks of material and clothing for SVK Armed Forces personnel. Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer has therefore visited several supply warehouses in the Liptov and Považie regions, including those in Poprad, Liptovská Ondrašová and Nemšová, to inspect the state of stocks.
Since 2020, the Ministry of Defence has invested €18m a year in clothing items for service personnel. “This fact is already reflected in the state of stocks and in soldiers' satisfaction. However, the unstable quality of clothing from some contractors remains an issue. Non-compliance with quality requirements is unacceptable, which is why all such contracts are being reviewed. Our servicemen and women must get what they really deserve,” Mr Majer confirmed.
Poprad has a century-long tradition of storing munitions. After visiting the Munitions Depot in Poprad, Mr Majer said: “To train specialists in this complex specialty is far from easy. I am pleased to have met such specialists there. We have identified a number of issues which we are going to resolve as soon as early next year.”
The Deputy Defence Minister also inspected the reserve medical stocks for the armed forces at the Office of the Slovak Armed Forces Surgeon General Warehouse in Liptovská Ondrašová. “Thanks to them, I am pleased that the Armed Forces are ready to fight against COVID-19, using 25,000 litres of hand disinfectants, 6,500 litres of floor disinfectants, 9.7 million gloves, 4.7 million respirators, 100,000 overalls and 60,000 plastic face shields,” he said, adding that the stocks of medicine and other medical supplies in the Armed Forces have improved over the past year.
