Ministry of Defence supports sustainable mobility

The Ministry of Defence continues to reduce its carbon footprint, while on the contrary it shores up ecological solutions to its operations across Defence. One of them is the MOD's vehicle replacement programme with the gradual transition to a green fleet.

Under the pilot MOD Green Concept, these days the MOD has replaced three obsolete combustion engine-powered vehicles for electric ones. In modernising its fleet, the MOD plans to continue purchasing ecologically friendly vehicles.

Secretary General of the MOD's Service Office Peter Kozák said: “This decision is consistent with the Action Plan for Clean Mobility Development across Defence in 2021-2030 that is currently being drafted with a view to translating the Support to Ecological Road Transport Vehicles Act into practice and to pursue the goals of the Electric Vehicle Mobility Development Strategy through to completion across Slovakia.”

With the vehicle fleet replacement programme, the MOD also seeks to deliver on national and international greenhouse gas emission targets by means of extending the scope of energy resources in transport, supporting green public procurement (GPP), and building a network of electric vehicle charging points (EVCP) across Slovakia.
