MOD terminates cooperation with Slovak War Veterans Union

The Ministry of Defence has terminated the Agreement on Mutual Cooperation with the Slovak War Veterans Union on the grounds of its activities. These raise serious doubts about the integrity and respect for SVK foreign, security and defence policy, while reducing the social importance of war veterans and the Slovak Armed Forces.

In a letter addressed to the vice president of the Slovak War Veterans Union, the Ministry of Defence stressed that it upholds Slovakia's universal and unchanging value pillars, especially its democratic establishment, the inviolability of human rights and individual freedoms, the rule of law and state sovereignty built on multilateralism and international cooperation.

For these reasons, the Ministry of Defence cannot agree with the Union's close cooperation with political parties and extremist movements the activities of which are aimed at polarising society, increasing extremism, spreading hatred and undermining confidence in the rule of law and democratic values.

The Ministry of Defence, therefore, distances itself from such activities because the actions of some individuals from the Union may endanger the honour and reputation of all war veterans who deserve the respect of the Slovak public.

The Ministry of Defence will also inform its departmental and international partners about the termination of its cooperation with the Slovak War Veterans Union.
