MILITARY POLICE TRACK DOWN SUSPECTS WHO HAVE FLOWN DRONES OVER DEFENCE INFRASTRUCTURE DESPITE FLIGHT BAN IN PLACE

The Ministry of Defence has repeatedly called on members of the public not to fly unmanned aerial systems (drones) over military facilities and defence infrastructure. In addition, the MOD is reminding the pubic that there has been a ban on taking photos or videos around such sites since 28 February.

Following reports of drone sightings, Military Police have gathered evidence and tracked down the drone operators suspected of illegal drone activity. The identified “persons of interest” have conducted drone flights over a military facility at Nitra Garrison. Due to the previous warnings and the heightened security measures in place around military bases, we insist on giving exemplary punishment to the perpetrators in this particular case.

At the same time, we call on media representatives to respect the security arrangements in place across military units and installations. Given that there is a real war happening only a few kilometres away from Slovakia, it is in our common interest to handle any sensitive information on SVK Armed Forces personnel and equipment in a responsible manner.
