Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer met with State Secretary of the Ministry of National Defence of Romania Simona Cojocaru on the margins of GLOBSEC 2022 in Bratislava today (3 June 2022). The core topics of their conversation covered Russia's invasion of Ukraine and its implications for the security situation in Europe, Slovak-Romanian defence ties, and the NATO Madrid Summit in June. They also looked at the two nations' deployments on international crisis management operations and new opportunities for joint training on MTAs and inter-force collaboration.

Speaking of SVK-ROU cooperation, Deputy Defence Minister Marian Majer said: “Romania is Slovakiaʼs most important partner in Southeast Europe – from both the political and economic perspectives. At the same time, we can see a potential for deepening our cooperation in the field of defence.”

Looking ahead, Majer said the Slovak Air Force and the Romanian Air Force are planning to cooperate on the operation, maintenance and training of personnel in support of C-27J Spartan airlifters as part of the EDA's C-27J Spartan Cooperation Project under the European Air Transport Fleet (EATF) scheme, as well as on Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) during joint NATO training activities and exercises.
