Slovak and Dutch Defence Ministers Jaroslav Naď and Kajsa Ollongren meet to discuss defence cooperation priorities

In his official visit to the Netherlands, Minister Defence Jaroslav Naď met with Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Kajsa Ollongren at the Ministry of Defence in The Hague today (23 June 2022). They had a discussion about the security situation in Europe in the context of the Ukraine war, the ongoing processes within the trans-Atlantic partnership, and SVK-NLD defence cooperation and related opportunities to move it forward.

The head of the SVK MOD emphasised that Slovakia very much appreciates the Dutch contribution in the form of a Patriot air defence system and crews of operators to the emerging NATO Multinational Battle Group Slovakia (NATO MN BG SVK). “Such strong marks of solidarity from our friends convince us that the collective defence concept is not just an empty phrase, but the very core of the Euro-Atlantic alliance, the result of which is a real strengthening of our defence capabilities,” Minister Naď said.

At the meeting, both leaders exchanged their views on issues related to the forthcoming NATO Summit in Madrid, which, considering the fundamental change in Europe's security environment, brought about by Russia's aggression against Ukraine, will definitely be one of the most important ones over the past years. As well as this, they shared their assessment of SVK-NDL defence cooperation so far. According to them, successful examples include the Dutch operational deployment to Slovakia in support of NATO MN BG SVK, deployments of both armed forces on international crisis management operations, joint international exercises, and education and training activities.
