No entry into some military woodlands allowed over fire concerns

Military Forests and Estates (MOD Forestry Department) has informed the public that there is an increased risk of fires in military woodlands and that no entry into the Levoča Hills forests is allowed over fire concerns due to the current spell of hot and dry weather. The wildfire warning and no entry into the forests will be in effect until further notice.

As Director of Military Forests and Estates Ján Jurica explained, given that fires devastated over 100 hectares of woodland in the Levoča Hills in the past, respective county offices in Kežmarok, Stará Ľubovňa and Poprad, which cover the former Javorina Military District, have issued a ban on public access to local forests. “The goal is to protect the woodlands against wildfires and to ensure the safety of people. We would like to thank the public for their understanding, caution and responsible approach to nature, woodlands and wild animals,” he added.

To reduce the risk of wildfires, Military Forests and Estates calls on all visitors to MOD woodlands across Slovakia to follow forest fire safety guidance.
