SVK-U.S. bilateral defence and security cooperation, the current situation in Ukraine, the joint action of allies in the provision of support for Ukraine to defend itself against Russia's aggression, and the strengthening of NATO's collective defence – these all were the underlying themes of today's meeting between Defence Minister Jaroslava Naď and U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Nicholas Namba at the Ministry of Defence in Bratislava. This marked the first time that the Defence Minister has met the Chargé d’Affaires for talks since he took up his Diplomatic Service appointment in Slovakia.
Appreciating the quality and progress of cooperation with the USA as well as the size of U.S. participation in NATO's multinational battlegroup in Slovakia, Jaroslav Naď said: “The conflict in Ukraine has completely changed the international security perspective. I am pleased to say we have reliable partners who have significantly supported Slovakiaʼs defences by sending both personnel and equipment that our Armed Forces do not have at their disposal.”
When discussing Ukraine, Chargé d’Affaires Nicholas Namba called Slovakia's quick reaction to the Russian Federation's invasion of Ukraine “inspirational”, and praised the Allied ability to effectively coordinate efforts across the whole of NATO. He views the development of bilateral ties between the countries positively, as the SVK-U.S. relationship advances to a new level.
