Today (11 August 2022), Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď attended a conference on themes dedicated to Ukraine in Copenhagen, where he and his counterparts from 25 countries discussed ways to provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with military equipment, materiel, training, and funding. Among those who delivered their remarks at the conference, initiated by Ukraine, the United Kingdom and Denmark, were Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Defence Minister Olexii Reznikov. They assessed the situation on the battlefield and thanked Allies for their solidarity and support.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “Ukraine will need our long-term sustainable assistance. Therefore, we appreciate todayʼs opportunity to speak with our partners on how best to deliver this support.” He suggested that the manufacturing capacities of the SVK defence industry could be increased in the interests of keeping a strengthened flow of arms deliveries to Ukraine.
In addition to this, the head of the SVK MOD welcomed the UK's initiative to support Ukraine by providing training, equipment and funding. According to Minister Naď, the UK's proposal envisages an international scheme to build up the capacities and capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Minister Naď said: “The British side sees an opportunity to expand the scope and areas of training for Ukrainian military personnel, whether directly in the United Kingdom or elsewhere in Europe. To support the Ukrainian people in the fight against the Russian aggressor, we are looking to ways in which we can provide further aid and capabilities to Ukraine. We are ready to make maximum efforts as we continue to help our eastern neighbour.”
Mr Naď held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Poland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands on the sidelines of the event in Copenhagen.
