International Exercise European Shield kicks off

A planned series of exercises – dubbed Exercise European Shield – has kicked off across a number of training areas, grounds and facilities run by the Slovak Armed Forces.

The European Shield series of exercises will see Slovak Armed Forces military personnel training side by side with NATO and Ukrainian armed forces. The aim of the exercise is to ensure greater alignment of tactics, techniques and procedures and to exchange operational experience. This will be provided to the exercise participants by Ukrainian service members as a way of enhancing their preparedness.

On the exercise, the forces will focus their efforts on the conduct of different types of operations. Alongside this, Slovakia, as a Host Nation (HN), will put its planning capabilities to the test. Over the coming weeks, the logistics of individual phases of the exercise will be handled by all the participating countries.

The European Shield series of exercises has seen approval by the SVK Government, whereas the mandate allows for participation of up to 900 service personnel in the training event, including some 200 members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
