An international scientific conference on Heroism and Violence in World War II to be streamlined for the public

The Ministry of Defence's Slovak National Uprising (SNP) Museum Banská Bystrica and Institute of Military History (VHÚ) Bratislava along with the Slovak Historical Society at the Slovak Academy of Sciences are hosting an international scientific conference on Heroism and Violence in World War II at the SNP Museum Banská Bystrica on 9-10 November 2022.

In recognition of this coming Veterans Day, the conference has opened with a wreath-laying ceremony at the SNP Memorial on Wednesday 9 November 2022. Representing the SVK MOD at the ceremony, Director of the MOD Legislation and Law Department Daniel Bodnár said: “I am convinced that a truthful understanding of our history contributes to a deepening of our national awareness and patriotic feelings.”

Whilst Director of the Institute of Military History (VHÚ) Bratislava Col Miloslav Čaplovič will deliver the keynote speech at the conference, individual papers and panel discussions on heroism, sacrifices, suffering and the Holocaust in Slovakia and Europe throughout WWII will be interpreted simultaneously into English and will be livestreamed for the public via Zoom.
