The Ministry of Defence and the editorial board of Defence Magazine, the official monthly publication of the MOD, have concluded the 18th MOD Literary Competition with “INTERNET BATTLEFIELD” as this year's theme. The winners of this creative writing competition were decided in a public online vote.
Five finalists were shortlisted in each category from 139 short stories and essays by the MOD judging panel, composed of editors on the editorial board of Defence Magazine and staff from the Defence Minister's Cabinet Office, including from the Press Office, the Hybrid Threats Division, and the Marketing Division. All entries were logged and numbered as they came in, so that they could be judged anonymously and matched back to their entry.
The online public vote on the MOD's Facebook page took place from 28 November to 4 December 2022. A total of 4,500 votes determined the final order of winners.
The most votes in the Secondary Students category went to TIMEA MARINIČOVÁ of Army General Ludvík Svoboda Grammar School in Humenné, followed in the second and third places by ANDREA BABÍNCOVÁ, of Grammar School in Považská Bystrica, and MICHAELA JANEČEKOVÁ, of Secondary Technical School in Tisovec.
The College/University Students category was won by SIMONA JURKOVÁ, of Police Corps Academy in Bratislava (the winner of the MOD Literary Competition 2020), while the second and third place winners were ALEXANDRA KUNDRÁTOVÁ and JOZEFÍNA STERANČÁKOVÁ, both from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Prešov.
The short stories and essays that were shortlisted for the finals are available on the MOD's website at Literárna súťaž.
The winners of the 18th MOD Literary Competition will be rewarded with cash prizes and gifts. The winning entries will now be published in Defence Magazine.
