“INTERNET BATTLEFIELD”: Winners of the 18th MOD Literary Competition receive prizes at an MOD-hosted prize-giving ceremony

The winners of the 18th MOD Literary Competition, with “INTERNET BATTLEFIELD” as this year's theme, received cash prizes and gifts for their winning entries from the hands of Secretary General of the MOD Service Office Peter Kozák during the prize-giving ceremony at MOD Main Building today.

Speaking in front of the winners, Secretary General of the MOD Service Office Peter Kozák said: “Our thanks go to all the participating students who have not only demonstrated their brightest talent, but they have also shown that security is of great importance to young people. It is an honour for me to meet the winners and encourage their interest in public affairs.”

Five finalists were shortlisted in each category from 139 short stories and essays by the MOD judging panel, and the winners were then decided in a public online vote on the MOD's Facebook (Facebook).

The College/University Students category was won by SIMONA JURKOVÁ, of Police Corps Academy in Bratislava, while the second and third place winners were ALEXANDRA KUNDRÁTOVÁ and JOZEFÍNA STERANČÁKOVÁ, both from the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Prešov.

The most votes in the Secondary Students category went to TIMEA MARINIČOVÁ, of Army General Ludvík Svoboda Grammar School in Humenné, followed in the second and third places by ANDREA BABÍNCOVÁ, of Grammar School in Považská Bystrica, and MICHAELA JANEČEKOVÁ, of Secondary Technical School in Tisovec.

The short stories and essays that were shortlisted for the finals are available on the MOD's website at Literárna súťaž. The winning entries will now be published in Defence Magazine, the official monthly publication of the MOD.
