Michalovce-based gunners to fire a 20-round New Year's Gun Salute

Gunners of 21 Self-propelled Artillery Battalion (21 Sp Arty Bn) Michalovce are to fire a 20-round New Year's Gun Salute from Bratislava's embankment across the Danube at 14:00hrs CET on Sunday 1 January 2023.

To mark Foundation Day and Slovakia's 30th anniversary, the 20-round New Year's Gun Salute will be sounded on the orders of the President of the Slovak Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Slovak Armed Forces.

After a two-year pause over the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremonial act will once again be performed by the firing party from 21 Sp Arty Bn Michalovce, taking the honorary name of Maj Gen Alexander Korda, with the use of 122mm HD-30 towed howitzer guns.

The public are asked to follow guidance from Military Police (MP) officers and organisers at the venue on Bratislava's Danube embankment just behind Incheba Expo Bratislava in Petržalka.

Applications for accreditation need to be made by media interested in attending the event via hovorca.ossr@mil.sk no later than 14:00hrs CET on Saturday 31 December 2022. All accredited media representatives must be in place on Bratislava's embankment at Viedenská cesta (Vienna Road) no later than 13:00hrs CET. Guidance will be provided by the organisers.

Elsewhere in mid-January, SVK service personnel will gather in the centre of Bratislava for a ceremony to commemorate 30 years of the Slovak Armed Forces. The celebrations of this round anniversary will culminate on Armed Forces Day later this September.
