State Secretary of the Slovak Ministry of Defence Marian Majer hosted Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister Denys Sharapov and his delegation at MOD Main Building in Bratislava today, for talks on the operational needs of Ukraine's Armed Forces in defence against Russia's aggression.
Reiterating the condemnation of Russia's hostilities, State Secretary Marian Majer said: “We strongly condemn the Russian Federationʼs unprovoked aggression against Ukraine and support the Ukrainian people as they fight for the freedom of choice to determine their own foreign policy direction. We are horrified at the inhuman attacks launched against civilian targets. These are despicable, hideous and completely unacceptable war crimes.”
On behalf of the SVK MOD, State Secretary Majer offered his heartfelt condolences to Deputy Defence Minister Sharapov for the victims of today's tragic crash in the city of Brovary.
So far, Slovakia has gifted €168mil worth of military equipment to Ukraine, including its S-300 surface-to-air missile system, BVP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, howitzers, helicopters, mine-clearing unmanned ground vehicles, anti-tank weapons, small arms, body armour systems, munitions, and fuel. The aid to Ukraine has also included electricity generators, transformers, and medical supplies.
On the international community and Slovakia's steadfast support for Ukraine, State Secretary Marian Majer said: “We are fully aware that the international communityʼs assistance be must be tailored and long-standing. And that is exactly why today we addressed Ukraineʼs concrete needs with representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence. We stand by our neighbour, and, while working closely with our allies, we will continue to provide Ukraine with support, so that it can win its heroic fight for freedom and our shared values.”
