Defence Minister Naď and State Secretary Majer pay a visit to 13 Mechanised Battalion Levice

Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď along with State Secretary Marian Majer have today paid a visit to the Slovak Army senior military leaders and service personnel of 13 Mechanised Battalion (13 Mech Bn) based at Dukla Barracks in Levice. The top Defence officials were keen to see the positive progress being made in improving Service conditions and the related state of infrastructure and equipment they use in the performance of their tasks.

In a statement, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “The military profession has a lot of pitfalls, yet part of the MODʼs remit is to make sure that working daily in an undignified and neglected environment is not one of them. After years-long neglect and underinvestment in infrastructure, we are doing the maximum to ensure that our soldiers have adequate Service conditions for their devoted service to our homeland.”

In the words of Mr Naď, this year the MOD has allocated more than €1.2m for refurbishment works to the repair workshop at Dukla Barracks and there are also plans to replace the heating system in buildings, to repair toilet facilities, and to make additional infrastructure investments there.

According to State Secretary Majer, defence infrastructure across Slovakia urgently needs further maintenance and care. “Thanks to the right resource management system in place, I am convinced we can provide service personnel with a standard that is regarded as a matter of course in NATO member countries,” Mr Majer said.

As an integral element of 1 Mech Bde Topoľčany, 13 Mech Bn Levice remains true to its core mission to defend Slovakia and deploys on Military Aid to the Civil Authorities (MACA) tasks across the entirety of Slovak territory, with the aim of giving assistance to civil authorities, organisations and populations in the state of emergency or in an emergency situation where there is risk to life and health of people or to their property in the aftermath of critical situations.
