State Secretary of the SVK Ministry of Defence Marian Majer today received Slovenian State Secretary for National and International Security Andrej Benedejčič at the MOD in Bratislava. They had an opportunity to discuss security efforts in the region affected by Russia's war against Ukraine, the fight against hybrid threats, and ways to deepen SVK-SVN defence engagement.
At the meeting, State Secretary Majer thanked his Slovenian counterpart for the SVN contribution to the NATO Multinational Battlegroup in Slovakia (NATO MN BG SVK), leading to a practical strengthening of the SVK-SVN relationship and Slovakia's defence capability. Additionally, areas of possible cooperation were evaluated on the subject of countering disinformation.
On this note, State Secretary Marian Majer said: “We are fully aware of the danger that hybrid threats pose to the security of our countries and to the democratic systems themselves. The influence operations by hybrid actors create dividing lines in society and weaken the legitimacy of state institutions. Therefore, it is also by sharing information and best practices with the Slovenian side that we can strengthen our resilience against these threats.”
In their discussion, Mr Majer and Mr Benedejčič also took stock of the two nations' defence engagement in the areas of common interest thus far. At the military expert level, this has been well developed in the fields of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence (CBRND), the Air Forces (AF), and the Special Operations Forces (SOF).
