Czech Defence Minister’s first visit to Slovakia: Towards the two Nations’ strong alliance, cooperation and defence self-sufficiency

Today (Wednesday 21 January 2026), we welcomed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Czech Republic Jaromír Zůna to Bratislava, in what was his first official visit abroad in his new role. The focus of his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Robert Kaliňák was on deepening the two Nations’ defence links, enhancing their defence self-sufficiency, and jointly strengthening security in the region.

The leaders discussed continued avenues of cooperation between the Czech and Slovak defence industries and joint projects, including getting CZE and SVK manufacturers closely involved in the drive to grow the national economies and to deliver the security of both countries.

Mr Robert Kaliňák offered his utmost appreciation for the Czech Republic’s long-standing assistance by making Czech Air Force jets available for Air Policing scrambles across Slovak airspace, as well as for our neighbour’s role in the Lešť-based NATO Multinational Brigade Task Force Slovakia.
