The Jánošík Military Folklore Ensemble (VUS), based in Zvolen, has announced a competitive audition for a civilian vacancy in the Jánošík Ensemble’s Music Group.

Audition for the Jánošík Ensemble’s Music Group

The Director General of the Jánošík Military Folklore Ensemble would like to invite qualified candidates to audition for the full-time position of Cimbalomist with the Jánošík Ensemble’s Orchestra.
 

Who: Male and female qualified candidates for the position of Cimbalomist

When: 13:00 - 18:00, 8 September 2026

Where: SVK Railways Culture House, Sokolská 69, 960 01 Zvolen, Slovakia

What we require:

• all auditionees must be at least 18 years old to audition for the Ensemble,
• a music conservatory degree or a Master of Music degree in cimbalom performance from a music academy,
• previous experience of working with a professional folklore orchestra,
• excellent musicianship and technical instrument skills expected of a folklore orchestra member,
• demonstration of mastery of other folklore instruments is an advantage.

Audition repertoire list:

1. Nagy József, Study No. III,
2. Pablo de Sarasate, Gypsy Airs, Op. 20,
3. A dumka and a dance from Klenovec,
4. Playing from sheet music.

The APPLICATION DEADLINE is 1 September 2026. Piano accompaniment is mandatory. It will not be provided automatically. The application form must include a request for piano accompaniment to be provided by the Ensemble or a notification that the candidate will bring his/her own piano accompanist for the audition.

If the applicant requests the Ensemble to provide a piano accompanist, this information must be included in the application form. Playing music from memory is not a requirement. We will send the sheet music to applicants after receiving the application.
