Defence Minister J. Naď: A strong partnership and common purposeful visions on security and defence – these are the key factors of successful cooperation between Slovakia and Germany

The changing security environment, new and ever-relevant challenges in the politico-security field, effective multilateralism and sharing of common goals and values in the Euro-Atlantic region. These too were among the themes of the meeting between Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Slovakia, HE Ms Barbara Wolf who came to introduce herself after taking up her new Diplomatic Service appointment. The deployment of SVK military personnel and assets on Op Shared Responsibility was high on the agenda.
Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď said: “A strong partnership and common purposeful visions on security and defence – these are the key factors of the successful cooperation between Slovakia and Germany. It is indisputable that we must face current challenges together.” He added that common Euro-Atlantic values and the engagement of both countries in strategically important areas represent a major pre-requisite for a further deepening of ties with this crucial partner.
Also discussed were the successes of bilateral engagements in international crisis management. In this context, Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď underscored the deployment of SVK Military Police personnel on a German Navy frigate, where they served alongside German Boarding Team members on Op EUNAVFOR MED Sophia. Minister Naď also updated Ambassador Wolf on Slovakia’s contribution to Op EUNAVFOR MED Irini.
At the meeting, Ambassador Wolf appreciated, among others, the mutual engagement of both countries in the field of cyber security under the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (NATO CCD COE). Ambassador Wolf was informed that the International Defence Exhibition Bratislava IDEB 2020, which was originally due to take place in October 2020, will be rescheduled.
